For over 30 years Eastbourne & South Wealden MS Society has been supporting all people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS), including their carers and their families. Our key aim is to ensure that a diagnosis of MS does not lead to exclusion from the wider community.
As a self-funding support organisation, we depend on the generosity and kindness of local individuals, groups and businesses to help us finance our Community Support Programme for all people affected by MS in our area. Currently this incorporates:
Our MS Community Centre in St Leonards Road in Eastbourne
Community Health & Social Care - physiotherapy, respite care, specialist equipment, support for adult and young Carers, symptom management courses and supporting our MS Specialist Nurse, home and hospital visiting, benefits advice and evidence-based information.
Community Transport - we now have two wheelchair-accessible vehicles which play a major part in keeping our MS folk actively involved in a wide variety of social groups, which include a Ladies Support Group, Men's Social Group, Ladies Social Group, Luncheon Club, Yoga, Young Carers and a Newly-diagnosed Group.
We work in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust, the NHS Trust, Social Services and the national MS Society. We have representatives on all local disability campaign groups, including the Borough Council led Disability Involvement Group
and the Eastbourne Access Group.
We have a dedicated group of volunteers running our MS Support Centre (most with MS or they are current or ex-Carers) and in 2007 we received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. If we can help you in any way please contact us on 01323 439447.
